Over the past 6 months I have formed a tiny snowball in my palm that I call PictureLyrics. If I continue at my current pace, by next year I’ll have three tiny snowballs – too many for me to hold without recruiting an extra appendage, but not quite enough to start much of a snowball fight among friends. So before I reach back into the snow to create ball #2, I’ll fling the first one down the slope, and see what size it can gather. Here I will record my basic process of making PictureLyrics videos, with the hope that this activity will appeal to others. And who might those others be? Are you a:
- Student of language, music, media, or computer engineering?
- Teacher or professional in any of these areas?
- Musician, photographer, or videographer?
- Fan of a particular artist or genre of music?
- Parent?
If you fall into one or more of these groups I invite you to take a shot at making a video with us. It is challenging and stimulating work, but we will be here to help at every stage – from song selection to final editing. As we grow, we will be exploring ways we can reward contributors, both financially and otherwise. In fact, as a bit of added force to my tumbling snowball, I will offer a cash reward of $100 to the first 10 people to contribute a video that meets our publishing standards. If you are interested, send an e-mail to chris(at)picturelyrics.org, and read on to learn about my video-making process, distilled from making over 20 videos to date.
